State Allied and Healthcare Councils: 30 of 36 States and UTs have notified a council

NCAHP’s published status table shows that 30 of India’s 36 States and Union Territories have notified a State Allied and Healthcare Council. Ten of those councils are flagged by NCAHP as constituted with deviations from the 2021 Act, and the State Governments concerned have been asked to rectify them.
What happened
The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021 provides for State Allied and Healthcare Councils alongside the national Commission. NCAHP publishes a table of each State and Union Territory’s council notification and rule notification.
As of the table’s 16 September 2026 update, no State Council notification is recorded for six: Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. Chhattisgarh and Puducherry have notified rules. Rules are recorded for 23 States and Union Territories in all, and 21 have notified both a council and rules.
NCAHP marks ten councils as constituted "with deviation to the provisions of the NCAHP Act, 2021" and says the State Governments have been requested to rectify them: Assam, Bihar, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Sikkim and West Bengal.
Recent entries include council notifications for Haryana (27 July 2026), Uttarakhand (30 June and 7 August 2026) and Manipur (3 September 2026), and rule notifications for Puducherry (20 August 2026) and Assam (5 September 2026).
Why it matters
Under the Registration of Allied and Healthcare Professionals Regulations, 2026, professionals register with their State Council where a functional council exists, and with the Central Register where it does not. The status of the council in a professional’s own State therefore decides where they apply.
The table records notifications. It does not, on its own, show whether a council is operating a registration process, so professionals should confirm with the council or NCAHP before applying.
What happens next
Councils flagged for deviations await corrective action by their State Governments. States and UTs without a notified council or rules have yet to complete those steps.
